Cheap non toxic horn deadening. Acrylic Latex plus wood pulp polymer sound deadener; take wife's mixing bowl and mixer, add roof coating and lots of saw dust(the courser the better), mix thoroughly with as much filler as can be suspended in latex to prevent shrinkage, dip horn into or pour in external cavities. $19/gallon.

Mechanical contractor. Commercial (hospital, school, etc.) HVAC/plumbing (what a waste of electronics school). 02 Tight was our duct sealant. (nowdays, mostly all I do is Google data from the office and interpret specs).

Heck, it's pretty cheap new. Oh yeah, "Budget". The CADS is $9.

Any solid (that remains a solid) will do something, flats give the best area.

Yes, I priced the stuff GM (I think it was GM) suggested from Grainger. I've got a Grainger close by, but often times they're priced high. I guess that's okay for a business that needs something now, but that isn't me.

Now I wish I hadn't thrown away that bucket of play sand I had sitting. Oh well........ it was only a dollar as an open bag to begin with. Someone here posted some good results, cosmetically speaking, awhile back with paint and sand, but I'd like to use something besides paint if possible.

That would make an interesting material to cast the whole horn.

Are you suggesting the paint and the roof coating, or choosing one or the other?
I think you'd run into problems pouring it. Paint isn't designed to go on thick....... the roof stuff might handle a bit more thickness. I beleive even the sand/paint trick has to be layered.

It does, for sure. That's what I did on the back of my A7 horn flares. And I used a thick asphalt paint.

Yours may be the ones I was thinking of......... I didn't realize you used an asphalt paint, Though. Do you recall specifically the paint that you used? What was it marketed towards? The only asphalt paint I've seen is for fences.

Yup, that along with some polystyrene bead, perlite or vermiculite mixed in and call it a day. I wouldn't even consider using anything asphalt based.

Since polymer damping was known art, the AP patent's main sell was the wide range of temperature at which it remained stable. Living room temps are one thing, but being a black horn on a pole at the fairgrounds... just like a hot day on an Alabama blacktop.

All of the above is why I used Wurth sound-deadening sheets. Easy, clean, not smelly.

4 sheets do the tops, bottoms and the bells, leaving 2 sheets for flanges and sides if required. They are grey in colour but can be painted.

I think I still have the can of asphalt paint. I'll dig it up tomorrow. Oddly, it's water based - which is why I chose it.
